Bipalium sp.
Shiny brown worm with a crescent-shaped head.
It had been raining torrentially for the last few days. The garden and road outside were muddy and full of puddles. This planarian found shelter in my verandah crawling up the netting put up to keep mosquitoes out. I made it crawl on to a sheet of paper and released it in the garden under some plants. I watched it for a while...first it remained curled up with the head resting on the body. Then it felt comfortable enough on the paper to move its head a bit. After that it extended its body to explore...that is when I released it. The sequence of photos is in reverse (the extended body shot is first)

Your spotting has been nominated for the Spotting of the Week. The winner will be chosen by the Project Noah Rangers based on a combination of factors including: uniqueness of the shot, status of the organism (for example, rare or endangered), quality of the information provided in the habitat and description sections. There is a subjective element, of course; the spotting with the highest number of Ranger votes is chosen. Congratulations on being nominated!
