Sherman's Fox Squirrel

Sciurus niger

Description:

Observed in a partially urban area with numerous Oak trees, large open area, residential area on the south, a fairly busy 2-lane road on the west. This a County owned property with a water reclamation facility with a recycling drop off near the front where this Fox Squirrel was seen. It has been seen several times before.

Habitat:

This squirrel was observed close to the entry of the water reclamation facility near a fairly busy county road US Alt 19. It was approx. 40-50 yards in and took refuge in an Oak Tree bordering the entry road.

Notes:

It scurried to the higher heights of the tree. There it appeared to attempt to hug (flatten out) against the branch in an attempt to camouflage itself from me.
