Tamias
Chipmunks have reddish-brown fur on their back and sides and white fur on their stomach. They have two white stripes bordered by black on their sides and one black stripe on the center of their back. The chipmunk has light stripes above and below its eyes and it has pouched cheeks that it uses to store and carry food.
Chipmunks live in open deciduous forests and at the edges of woodlands. It can also be found in bushy areas and in rocky areas like walls near houses and other buildings.
This cute little Chipmunk is one of a few dozen or so, that reside at the same location on this planet as I do. They are very energetic and entertaining to watch.
Yes RubyPrakash, I have seen photos of the Indian Palm Squirrel and can say they look very similar to what we in our country call the chipmunk. It is yet another reason that when posting one need put the scientific name of the species. Sometimes the species are exactly the same but the common name is different in various part of the world, and sometimes even in various parts of the same country. Thanks for sharing your thoughts. I am ever learning from this sight. It is quite fascinating and informative as well.
williefromwi: Looks almost similar to Indian palm squirrel. here we don't have chipmunks.
Thanks Mayra and thanks as well Cornel Apostol. Cornel, I am thrilled you like my cute chipmunk series and wish you had them in your area. They are a treat to watch.
