Εastern Hermann's tortoise (Μεσογειακή Χελώνα)

Testudo hermanni boettgeri

Description:

Hermann's tortoise (Testudo hermanni ) is one of five tortoise species traditionally placed in the genus Testudo. Two subspecies are known: the western Hermann's tortoise (T. h. hermanni ) and the eastern Hermann's tortoise (T. h. boettgeri ). The species is fully protected by the Greek law, and it is rather common. The pictured adult was spotted in the Tzoumerka mountains National Park, Epirus region, Greece. Her carapace was missing a chunk(the wound had healed) but otherwise she was healthy.
