Jacana jacana

Description:

Long toed wading bird also known as jesus christ bird for its ability to "walk on water," and lily trotter. The long toes distribute the bird's weight over a larger area allowing it to walk on floating water plants without disturbing them. The adults are russt colored with a red "wattle" on its cere and around the face, while juveniles are pale and striped to better blend in with their surroundings. The male Jacana raises the young

Notes:

Jacanas are widespread, with different species found across the tropics. They are comical to watch as they strut and display among themselves, flashing the yellowish under feathers on their wings
