Description:

Found near a stream. It is about 15 inches tall. The stem is square and hairy and the leaves are long and toothed. The flowers are small and purple.

You should be able to edit your spotting to add more photos. That would be very helpful! I am sure we can figure this out!
It looks similar to many plants in the Stachys genus. Like this:

I noticed that too and I thought maybe it was just a different type of American Germander. If I can figure out how to add more pictures I have some good ones of just the flowers. Thanks very much for your help!!

You know, we may both be wrong. I didn't look closely enough at the flower structure in your photo. Sorry for the wrong ID suggestion. However, I was perusing the photos of American Germander and the are unhooded flowers. These appear to have hoods. I will continue to research it.

Its hard to tell from my picture but the flowers are different from loosestrife. Your suggestion led me in the right direction though and now I know what it is. Thanks! It is American Germander
