Dobsonfly

Corydalus sp.

Habitat:

I found this specimen a urban island of my city; on a region of transition between the Cerrado and Atlantic Forest.

Notes:

"The males have extra long and impressive looking mandibles that are used to hold the female during mating (they can't really bite well with those)."

Amazing insect! This is a male Dobsonfly, Genus Corydalus. The males have extra long and impressive looking mandibles that are used to hold the female during mating (they can't really bite well with those). I am not sure of the species in your area, but this will give you a place to begin a search. Thanks for sharing this beauty!
