shortwinged mole cricket

Neoscapteriscus abbreviatus Scudder

Description:

The shortwinged mole cricket scurries underground to scavenge for decaying matter and plant roots for its meal. It has claws designed for digging similar to a moles style of digging.

Habitat:

Sandy soils, usually near the coast; beaches, lawns, fields, and groves. They usually live underground for most of the time.

Notes:

I needed to be sly and quiet to take a good pic of it :)
