Purple finch enjoying seed.
Even the male house finches have the red rump/lower back. and it has the streaking on the flanks so that makes it a male house finch.
I think you are right about the first picture where two birds (house finch) are together. What do you think about the 2d picture? I think that one looks like a purple finch with the red along its back.
