I put other, even assuming these are some sort of egg case. They were literally all over the roofed dining area - nearly identical and just slightly raised above the surface of the wood and slightly rough, but also slightly squishy. Asked our guide and he said they were "nothing." which I took to mean nothing important to him

I would guess the same, but I put other, in part to hopefully attract attention so that someone who knows might see it.
Well, I would guess Arthropods rather than other :-)
