Black Rat Snake

Pantherophis obsoletus

Description:

Black Rat Snakes have been spotted frequently near the Baltimore Free Farm/Ash Street Garden on Ash Street in Hampden. Their major prey are probably the numerous rats and mice that live in Baltimore's streets, although black rat snakes are known to feed on just about any animal that's small enough.

Notes:

Seen in mid-afternoon crossing an alley (Yeager St.) which runs between residential lots and adjacent to the "top lots" of the Baltimore Free Farm's Ash Street Garden.
