Tortoise leaf beetle

Description:

Cassida type tortoise leaf beetle. The lateral ridges are not typical and my ID is rather tentative

Habitat:

Commonly found under bark.

Notes:

They may be hibernating or nocturnal. This was an iPhone photo

I saw dozens of these. They were all under tree bark and not on leaves. We were looking for lycaenid larvae. The habitat was desert.
