It looks like a Plains Cottonwood leaf, Populus deltoides, but you will have to see if you are in the range map. I am not that familiar with Montana.

Yes definatly looks to be a cotton wood tree. Were the leaves shiny like a fruit tree? If so then thats probably it. They have little fuzzy seeds that look like snow when they fall.
