American Alligator

Alligator mississippiensis

Description:

Hey my largest animal I have on photo as of now. This is an American Alligator from Sea World San Antonio. These bruisers can do some damage they have one of the most powerful bites in the animal kingdom. which is not made for chewing but rather lock on to its prey. These guy are very dangerous. Luckily a fence was between us or I would had been had or just injured. They are pretty large some get up to about 13-14 feet depending. This guy was just taking a mid morning siesta.

Habitat:

Primarily swamps and sometimes rivers and lakes depending on location. They live mainly in the swamplands of the south east which includes Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, and especially Florida.

Notes:

This is my first big reptile I am so excited I still had this one for the Captive animals mission. This is one of the best non-backyard or non-local spotting and it all happened at one of my favorite theme parks. I have been away from my site for the last couple of years their was a gap in 2012, 2013, 2014. Hey now I am back bringing you the photos of the years past and this year in full force. This is the American Alligator you can find these in zoos mainly but one of the best places to go and see them is at the Okefenokee swamp which is located near the Florida Georgia area. I've only been their once in all of my travels but I must say it was one of the coolest place to go. you have to take the airboat tour to really get into the gators territory and they are everywhere in the water. The Alligator can be traced back to the dinosaur time periods with its long time cousin the Sarcosuchus the super croc of the prehistoric swamps. The Alligator is one of the most dangerous creatures on the planet earth. They have a mouth full of razor sharp teeth, a jaw like a steel trap, a real good tactical advantage when in water which is its prime element. However if you look past all of the nightmare induced features you will find they are real caring and nurturing parents. Most reptiles lay their eggs and let the younglings fend for themselves but a gator mom makes a real good mother indeed. The gator is an awesome creature.
