Lion-tailed macaque

Macaca silenus

Description:

Lion-tailed macaques are found only in the western ghats. Here, in the Nilgiris, they are protected for they are an endangered species. The female (picture 1 & 2) had a disfigured nose and was most curious of the troop. She was ready to come close, probably to look for food (we didn't offer any).

Habitat:

Western Ghats of India.
