Isn't this fun, michaeltcannon? Now you can edit your spotting to put the common name, scientific name, and reference in their correct fields. Looking forward to your next mystery!

Ya it's probably not a blue tongue but I'm pretty sure it's a type of skink

But alligator lizard may be most likely what it is :-)

Good point Ava but it could be a domesticated blue tongue skink that escaped. although it is unlikely.

Ooooo. Alligator lizard is looking like the forerunner. Photos online look very similar. So many different color and stripe combinations but if you look at a brown one, it seems to be the winner.

OK, I don't think it's ablue tounged skink because they're from Australia and Asia. It could be a fence lizard or an alligator lizard (see this one that had lost his tail http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/764...). These lizards are amazingly urban. I probably have dozens in my garden in the middle of San Diego.

I'm pretty sure that's a blue tongue skink tail, they lose their tail when threatened so the predator will eat its tail instead of eating them

I too am thinking its a lizard after his or her 2nd unfortunate encounter. I'm just curious what kind of lizard is this big in such an urban environment. I have also never seen a single lizard in hundreds of hours of dog walking around here.

Welcome to Project Noah, michaeltcannon.

I'm guessing a lizard's tail since they loose them easily. It may have lost the end once before, and lost more of it this time.

That appears to be a Rattlesnake's tail
