matchstick

Pilophorus acicularis

Description:

upright club lichen, clubs (Pseudopodetia) clustered, unbranched and whitish with shiny black elongate fruiting bodies (apothecia).

Habitat:

Notes:

this species is closely related to devil's matchstick (Pilophorus acicularis). Also an interesting note: most lichens are extremely tolerant of extremely cold temperatures but very sensitive to heat.
