American Bullfrog

Rana catesbeiana

Description:

Large frog, can range in color from bright green to a darker brownish but is usually a combination. It's large, booming call can be heard along the shores of freshwater swamps, ponds and lakes (permanent bodies of water) during warmer weather.

Habitat:

Mountain stream in Acadia National Park.

Notes:

While hiking on one of the mountains in Acadia, I spotted this guy next to the trail. I was confused at first since there didn't appear to be any water sources nearby. As we walked a little further down the trail we found the stream. This Bullfrog was medium sized for the species.
