Pretty flower. Welcome to Project Noah.
Alice, we have several similar species. The direction of the bloom is not the best indicator. The red hibiscus in our yard have larger blooms and hang in many directions. These are approximately 4 inches long from the base of the calyx to the end of the stamen. The regular Turk's Cap also show in different directions and have a flower that's approximately 3 inched long. The wild Turk's Cap of the Rio Grande Valley has a length of less than 2 inches. Most of the time the blooms point upward, but a few will have a downward slant. Thanks for y your comment.
Turk's Cap Mallow usually hang downward. I think this is really a Red Hibiscus.
Nice spotting irmaram20 =)
