Description:

Several stems bear narrow, crowded heads with rose-lavender flowers arranged in slender wands. Flowers: heads about 3/4" (2cm) long, with 4-8 flowers, none of the ray type. Leaves: 3-6" (7.5-15 cm) long very narrow, stiff, minuyely dotted. Fruit: seed like, narrow, hairy, with many small plumes at top. Height: 6-32" (15-80 cm)

Habitat:

Dry open places, on the plains and among pinon and juniper, often in sandy soil and Marshes
