Fall Obedient Plant

Physostegia virginiana

Description:

Perennial that spreads by roots. Leaves mostly stalkless, toothed, and opposite. Flowers showy, in pairs, 2 lipped, upper lip hoodlike and somewhat arching. Each flower can be rotated on the stalk and will remain in the new position.

Habitat:

School garden planted with native plants.

Notes:

Generally obedient plant starts blooming in mid to late August. These are starting early.
