Erinaceus e. europaeus
A very shy European porcupine that prefers to be unseen. Usually wanders in evening and night, eats snails :-), worms, insects and will occasionally drink milk from a saucer left outside. They also like sweet fruit.
Burrows under dry leaf and branch piles, makes two entrances, gives birth to 3-8 pups. Hibernates from late Oct to March. Forages in dense underbrush in forests and suburban gardens.
Met this one in my garden in the daytime! It probably had been disturbed and was looking for a peaceful place. Even though I have the perfect place in my garden, I haven't seen it since :-(

Here in Switzerland there recently was an awareness campaign for drivers to watch out for them at night on small country roads. It brings a smile to my face to see this little guy alive and healthy!
Feeling welcomed - thanks! Yes AllisonMartines, endangered here, too. There are many road kills here. Many were eaten by foxes 10 years ago, but fox numbers have been diminished by mange.
Velkommen til Project Noah :)
Sødt pindsvin...
Really cute. Especially we you know that they are in danger in France, but we are doing our best to save them.
