Howler Monkey Baby

Alouatta palliata

Description:

4 month old rescued howler monkey. It is about 1' long. owler monkeys have short snouts and wide-set, round nostrils. They range in size from 56 to 92 cm (22 to 36 in), excluding their tails, which can be equally as long. Like many New World monkeys, they have prehensile tails.

When I went to pick this little guy up he was being held in a small bird cage and, as you can imagine, he had a pretty traumatic morning. He bit my hand five times. Luckily their teeth aren't so sharp. In any case, within 15 minutes he was on my shoulders and beginning to become attached emotionally. He rejected my daughters efforts to hold him by climbing onto my head. I wore him as a hat for two consective hours. All the young monkeys become attached almost immediately. I think it stems from feeling your heatbeat and the warmth of your body. I am glad that you enjoyed this Maria!
