ants

Description:

Small aggressive colonial ants capable of inflicting quite painful bites (through delivery of formic acid). They appear to be omnivorous scavengers and hunters.

Habitat:

In grassy lawn surrounded by a large wooded yard near a disturbed patch of remnant lowland forest.

Notes:

There is no mound of sand grains outside of the cavity so it is either a new nest or a reconnaissance on some other kind of cavity.

Yes, I know. I run around in flip-flops most of the time!

You must look where you walk, as sometimes it is in Florida. You don't want to stand on a fire-ant mound!
