The wingbars are not easy to see.... I added a new pix of same bird today used longer lens but still thru storm door glass. According to my book Bells Vireo are here seasonally... but now not being the season. so a late flyer or laying over this year. I was thinking this was a Ruby Crowned Kinglet but found no one else of the same mind.
take a look at this orange-crowned warbler: http://www.lloydspitalnikphotos.com/v/wa...
It has what looks like a faint wing bar and notice the broken eye ring. overall color looks similar too.
sarah in the woods, wait till March when the new edition of Sibley's Guide to Birds comes out!
Perhaps not. I was going by the written description that says wing bars were present and assumed they were not visible because of the photo quality. I do think I need to get an updated bird book though. Mine says bell's vireo is much farther north than online maps show. But my book was updated in the 80's. :/
This is not a Bell's Vireo. Not only is it fairly far out of range, but Bell's Vireo has a wing bar and this bird does not. I want to say Orange-crowned Warbler or something similar, but its hard to see characteristics well with how pixelated the photos are.
