Description:

It is a medium to large frog, that may reach 11 cm in length in females, but rarely exceeding 8 cm. It has a green and brown color, very variable, with black spots. The belly is grayish.

Habitat:

It is found in southern France, Portugal, Spain, and two sites in the United Kingdom; in Spain it is very abundant, as evidenced by its Spanish name rana común ("common frog"). This one was in the river Tormes. Its natural habitats are temperate forests, temperate shrubland, Mediterranean-type shrubby vegetation, rivers, intermittent rivers, swamps, freshwater lakes, intermittent freshwater lakes, freshwater marshes, intermittent freshwater marches, sandy shores, arable land, and urban areas.
