Brugia malayi
This is the microfilariae of Brugia malayi, seen under the light microscope at x40 magnification (using blood smear stained with Giemsa stain). It is a nematode (roundworm), that is causative agents of lymphatic filariasis (elephantiasis) in humans. The size of this parasite is about 200-275 um in length.
- Lymph and blood channels of human. The distribution is restricted to South and South East Asia.
- This is a nematode from the family Onchocercidae. The typical vector for Brugia malayi filariasis are mosquito species from the genera Mansonia and Aedes. These pictures was taken few years ago during my college years.

Can you imagine that, an organism this tiny can cause a very big burden on its victim.
