American Bullfrog

Rana catesbeiana

Description:

Plain green or with gray net-like pattern on green ground color. Ventral surfaces white and mottled with gray or yellow. Long hind legs may be blotched or banded. This one is fully grown, Rana catesbeiana reach between 7-15 cm (3.5-6 in) as adults. I believe it is the male since it has a prominent tympanum and the belly is strongly mottled.

Habitat:

One of the ponds in a wildlife habitat garden. They are seldom seen during the day because of the heavy vegetation.

Notes:

This is one of two Bullfrogs that have been in the garden for several years. They have been camera shy, so the photo was taken with a small flashlight. Going to continue to try for a better photo.
