Rare bird during the cold months in Colorado. A bad shot but we had excellent looks through a scope. First one I ever saw, but heard several occasions before then.

Choose a place from where you can see a good area of muddy reedbed about 100 meters away.
Then arrive there before dawn.Set up your scope and wait.Try to sit next to a tree wearing similar colored clothes. As dawn breaks scan the muddy reeds with your bins.Cant fail.

Nice, I have never seen another rail except for the American Coot and I've been to Bolsa Chica! How do I keep missing them?!?! I do know that they're pretty shy.
