Giant Moray Eel

Gymnothorax javanicus

Description:

Large. Can grow to 300 cm. Green to green-brown; with small squarish black spots on head, larger irregular lichen shaped blackish blotches regularly dispersed over body and fins; gill opening in a large round black spot. Juvenile: head and body with dispersed dark blotches and spots. Source: http://eol.org/pages/994547/details

Habitat:

Rocky and coral reefs

Notes:

Quite a large eel that I was taken aback - width is about that of a thigh! Did not dare to take a much closer shot. Must have been pissed off as we were photographing the swimming crab, (previous spot) maybe its dinner, just outside its den. Night dive at a depth of about 10.6 m. Batangas, Philippines.
