About 10-12 millimeters in body length, large for the genus. Colored as shown.
At least two specimens were gleaning aphid honeydew from oak leaves on the zoo grounds. Native habitat at the zoo is mixed coniferous forest with some Gambel's oak, aspen, chokecherry, and various ornamental trees and shrubs. This is not Gambel's oak.
These solitary wasps prey on flies as food for their larval offspring. This species is native to Europe.
