Bombus argillaceus
A bumblebee (Bombus argillaceus) pollinating silver sage (Salvia argentea). The stigma of the flower touch on the bumblebee's thorax that is full of pollen from the previous flowers it has visited. At the same time, the hairs of the thorax gather pollen from the anther. This species of bumblebee has such a long proboscide as it needs to be able to reach the nectar of Lamiaceae flowers.
Mountain meadow on the edge of deciduous woodland.
B. argillaceus is found from the eastern Mediterranean to the Alps in France, Italy, Switzerland, and Austria, over Hungary north to Cluj in Romania. In the east, it reaches eastern Kazakhstan, and in the south and south-east the Balkans, Crete, Cyprus, Turkey, the Caucasus, and northern Iran.[
