This thing was floating near the shore of a freshwater canal in western Boca Raton, FL. It was about 9 inches in diameter. I could not see if it had a root structure below it. The water was about a foot deep.
In a freshwater canal in western Boca Raton FL.
It was gone the next day and I have never seen anything like it before or since.

Of course, I could always be wrong. However, I just don't know of anything else it could be.
The canal that I live on is very limited access and there are just 5 homes from which the item in the spotting could have originated, mostly populated by seniors. I have not found any random food floating in the canal before, but I suppose anything is possible. Thanks for your comment.
Honestly, I don't find it that unlikely. Summer time has people outside having barbecues, or just enjoying some watermelon and then disposing of their food scraps outside. I find random food floating in canals all the time.
It does look a little like that, but a paper-thin slice of watermelon without the characteristic green outside skin, floating in a canal, is kind of unlikely.
I think it is a slice of watermelon
