Notes:

The eastern chipmunk is named for its distribution across eastern parts of the United States. Although it can climb trees, the eastern chipmunk spends most of its time on the ground and excavates quite extensive tunnel systems.

The eastern chipmunk is a chipmunk species found in eastern North America. It is the sole living member of the chipmunk subgenus Tamias, sometimes recognised as a separate genus.
