Description:

Identification: Small (body length of workers 7 mm). Workers (shown here) with reddish brown head and thorax, and 2-segmented waist. Abdomen black, characteristically globular and down-curved. Last part of thorax armed with 2 black-pointing spines. Biology: Slow-moving. Like others in the genus, builds nest mounds of soil and organic material thatched with leaves, stems and other materials, often at the base of bushes. Workers tend aphids and coccids. Sometimes damages leaves of young citrus trees.
