Green Sea Turtle - Honu

Chelonia mydas

Description:

Green sea turtles have very short snouts and their beaks are not hooked like the hawksbill turtle. Despite their name they are not green.

Habitat:

Marine tropical and subtropical regions worldwide. Especially in more shallow waters where they can feed on seagrasses.

Notes:

This sea turtle was swimming alongside my kayak, surfacing and breathing heavily. It was enjoying the salt wedge in the river. "Green" comes from the color of their fat
