Spotting

Description:

Large black beetle with protruding, elongated proboscis. Looks like internet pictures of a boll weevil, but we live in central Massachusetts, far from any cotton farms.

Notes:

We found the beetle already wrapped in webbing and being fed upon by an orb spider about 1/4 the beetle's size on a swing set in our backyard in a suburban neighborhood near Worcester, MA. Trying to determine if this is really a boll weevil.
