Walking Stick

Description:

Big walking stick with coloration for imitation of twigs covered in lichens. Approximately 15 cm long.

Habitat:

Found on a small cypress bush, but he could have come from one of the pine trees nearby. Semi-urban area on the outskirts of San Cristobal.

Notes:

Very gentle insect. I am convinced that the face of a walking stick was the model used for the alien in the "Predator" movies. Most walking sticks will hold their first pair of legs stretched out in front of them when at rest to help increase their mimicry of a twig. They will often sway slightly as well, as if to imitate the movement of small branches in the breeze.
