found two more and these have a bottle cap for scale http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/139... if you still think lizard I'll go ahead and change it :) thanks for the help

Well then I suppose a large lizard is a good possibility thank you. The next time I see one I'll try and get a picture with a coin or something for scale...I know its probably not an owl since even the small ones eat the occasional lizard but there are other birds with pellets that look similar like this one: http://besgroup.blogspot.com/2006/04/bee... I just can't find any that would live in my area

Lizards don't digest the outer part of bugs which is why you do see parts that don't look digested. It is sort of hard to know how big it is. It would help if you put a penny or something next it that will help us recognize the size of it. Owl pellets usually have bones, hair and feathers.

yeah I guess that's believable but the bug parts don't look digested at all that's part of the reason I thought they were pellets also they're a bit big even for the desert spiny lizard

Well there you have it, lizard scat. Not surprising since it's AZ.

Well, it's some kind of lizard I'm pretty sure of that.

really? wow I'm surprised I figured it was a bird just from the size of some of them and the range of where I'm finding them but perhaps I just have a whole lot of those lizards...I haven't seen any though

This is not a bird pellet or owl pellet or from a nocturnal animal. This is feces from a big lizard, the Desert Spiny Lizard. They will eat all that you mentioned that you see in the feces.

What makes you think these are from a bird? They are probably from a nocturnal mammal.
