lo Moth

Automeris lo

Description:

The lo Moth is a medium to large silk moth with a large black eyespot and some white in the center of each hindwing. Males have bright yellow forewings, body, & legs. Females have reddish-brown to purple forewings, body & legs.

Habitat:

Spotted at the Tamarac Discovery Center. They can be found in deciduous woodlands and gardens. Food: the caterpillar eats a variety of plants, including clover, roses, corn, maple, & birch. Adults do not feed & live 4 to 14 days.

Notes:

lo Moth is also called a Peacock Moth. Their range is throughout the U.S. especially the central and eastern states.
