Hyalessa maculaticollis
Minminzemi or the minmin cicada, is so named because of its call sounds like a repetitive "min-min" twill. They are most active during the hottest parts of the summer. In fact the sound of these cicadas are synonymous with summer, and often used as a sound effect in movies, television, and cartoons to indicate summer.
Minmin cicadas are fairly common in neighborhoods and parks with trees all over Tokyo.
