Chinese Mantis

Tenodera sinensis

Description:

I was walking by a bush when the wings of a Red-Spotted Purple caught my eye. At first glance I thought "why isn't he flying off, there is nothing in that bush that he could be eating" then as I got closer I notice the GIANT mantis that was chowing down on him. No doubt that it was a Chinese Mantis, the thing was massive, all but 6" long.

Hi Ryan, cool spotting! I have yet to find a Mantis mid meal but I'm hoping for one at some point. Please consider adding this wonderful spot to the Marvelous Mantids of the North East mission: http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/1573...
