Description:

Large fly. Shiny black abdomen with large bristles. Yellowish-gold thorax with a white face. Adults feed on flowers (known pollinators). Larvae are parasites mainly of Noctuid moths. Considered beneficial.

Habitat:

Suburban backyard garden, attracted to the flowers of the Garlic Chives.

Notes:

This fly was slightly bigger than the honey bees. No common name found for this fly.
