Florida Scarab Hunter

Campsomeris quadrimaculata

Description:

A large wasp- maybe 1.5". Body jet black, three bright yellow spots each side of abdomen. Wings irridescent black . Not very aggressive - it allowed me to get within inches of it as I tried to get a decent shot . Behavior suggested a solitary wasp species of some sort. New to me!

Habitat:

My backyard. Very interested in the aster-like flowers ( which I also need to ID..!) poked around in the foliage, as if hunting.

Notes:

Female- only two rows of squarish spots .
