Eastern Garter Snake

Thamnophis sirtalis

Description:

About 18" long, Yellow dorsal stripe and stripes on either side with a brown checkerboard pattern between the stripes

Habitat:

Marshy area near a chicken coup

Notes:

While visiting a cell phone tower, I almost stepped on him, but noticed him just in time. When I hopped to keep from stepping on him, it apparently frightened him and he coiled up into the strike position. Boy am I glad he wasn't poisonous, or I would be in the hospital right now!
