Stagmomantis carolina
Found this mantis stalking bugs on the side of a building.
On a building near an open field.
Hi Shannon, this is a very pretty female Mantis. However, I don't think this is Stagmomantis carolina. Female Carolina Mantis have wings that do not cover the entire abdomen and the green ones have spots on the wings like this one:http://bugguide.net/node/view/720514/bgi...This is more likely either Mantis religiosa (European Mantis) :http://bugguide.net/node/view/567864/bgi...or Tenodera aridifolia sinensis (Chinese Mantid):http://bugguide.net/node/view/710052/bgi...Did you happen to see the inside of the front legs near the body? Mantis religiosa has a black spot often ringed with white there. I am leaning more towards the Chinese Mantid because of the yellow on the front legs but I am not absolutely sure. Either way, this would be a nice addition to the Marvelous Mantids of the North East mission:http://www.projectnoah.org/missions/1573...
