Green Sea Turtle

Chelonia mydas

Description:

This photo was taken on a beach on The Big Island of Hawai'i that serves as a sanctuary for green sea turtles (or Honu). All visitors to the area are expected to stay at least 20 feet away to respect the space of these amazing creatures. I would like to note that I was 20 feet away from this individual despite the photo's appearance - I was using a telephoto lens on my camera! I feel so lucky to have been in the presence of this turtle and wish it well in it's future life journeys!
