Cascade golden-mantled ground squirrel

Spermophilus saturatus

Description:

This is the largest species of the three within the subgenus Callospermophilus. Brown, reddish brown and black on the back with a white streak and white underneath. Also a white eye ring and fairly large claws (pic3).

Habitat:

Spotted in pine woods west of Ronald, Wa. in the Cascade foothills around 2000 ft. elev. This species is only found in Washington and British Columbia - mostly in the Cascade mountains and foothills.
