Description:

Native tree to New Zealand. This one was spotted in the northern section of the waipoua forest north a Dargaville, North Island, New Zealand. This ancient giant Kauri is known locally as "Tane Mahuta ". Tane Mahuta is thought to be around 1,200 (or more) years old and has a height of 51.m with a girth of 13.7 m. They have narrow, lanceolate, bronze green leathery 100mm leaves on young trees but only 40mm long on mature trees

Habitat:

Grow in moist humus rich soil.

Notes:

Mature Kauri are now relatively rare in the wild although it is widely planted in parks and large gardens.
