Description:

This tortoise was about 10 inches from the front to the back of the shell. I was lucky to see 2 about 100 feet from eachother.

Habitat:

Brooker Creek Preserve

Notes:

The gopher tortoise is seen as a keystone species because it digs burrows that provide shelter for 360 other animal species. They are threatened by predation and habitat destruction.
